Topping Up Your Account Balance
Blocx is usage-based: every SMS segment, email, 2FA verification, and number fee draws down a prepaid balance. Topping up adds funds. Manage your balance at Billing → Overview.
Top up manually
- Open Billing → Overview.
- Click Top up.
- Enter an amount and (optionally) choose a card other than the default.
- Confirm.
The charge runs against your card and the new balance is available in seconds — there's no waiting for funds to clear.
Account cap
To prevent runaway top-ups (especially with auto-recharge enabled), each account has a configurable maximum balance cap. The default cap is $500. Top-ups that would exceed the cap are rejected.
Raise the cap at Billing → Overview → Limits if you process more volume. Caps protect you from configuration mistakes (e.g., setting auto-recharge to $50,000 by accident) — keep yours just above your typical month's spend.
Effective balance
The figure shown as balance is your effective balance:
effective_balance = funded_balance - reserved_usage
funded_balance— the money you've topped up minus settled charges.reserved_usage— messages in flight, pending invoice charges, and short-term holds.
This is what triggers low-balance notifications and auto-recharge — not the raw funded balance.
Low-balance behavior
Configure a threshold and a recharge amount at Billing → Auto-recharge so the balance refills before it hits zero. Organization owners and admins are notified by email when auto-recharge runs (or fails).
What runs out when the balance hits zero
When the effective balance reaches zero, paid send operations are rejected with 402 Insufficient balance. Sends already in flight are not affected. Avoid this by enabling auto-recharge — see Configuring Auto-Recharge.
Tip
If you'd rather not think about manual top-ups, enable auto-recharge so the system keeps your balance topped up automatically — Configuring Auto-Recharge.
